Our Foyer Bench Face Lift and a New Rug

So, since the rug I ordered for my living room is currently MIA somewhere in the Dallas area (thank you UPS) and the only one I have received so far is the 4 by 6 for the foyer, I decided I wanted to spruce up the space a bit, starting with the bench.

I purchased this bench from World Market about 4 years ago, it came with the baskets, so that was a plus.  It is identical to the one from Pottery Barn, just slightly smaller.  I bought a bench cushion that somewhat fits a few months after, but I have no idea what made me buy it in the color I did:

I had been meaning to re-cover it for years now, but was finally motivated enough last week when I got the new foyer rug.  I purchased a drop cloth for about $10, washed it in fabric softener to make it a bit more softer.  Sewing the cover was much easier than I thought, although I wish now that I had curved all four corners (I only did one because I was afraid of how it would look).  I even did the tufting by hand, and only poked my fingers with the needle a few times ;)

And because I love the look of the PB baskets, I purchased some wooden numbers at Hobby Lobby, drilled a hole, sprayed painted them, and distressed them, and hung them with some jute twine:

I also added a 3 gallon Crock I recently found at my local mercantile, and dressed it up with some plants from my side yard:

The pillow cover I was able to make from this:

A Table Runner

To this:

Not the best made pillow, but who's looking?

Now, on to the rug, if you remembered, I purchase this one from Ballard Designs:

It does come with the fringe at the ends, but I ended up cutting them off, because they kept getting tangled every time the door would be opened, note:  if you buy this rug, and you do this, be prepared to glue some of the fibers together, because they will come undone :(  not to mention, your pets might think it's a big brand new toy you just bought them.  Oh, and talking about pets, have I mentioned how annoying this gets:

Charlie literally runs when he hears the click of the shutter button...such a photo bomber!

Here is the foyer now:

And from the upstairs:

And from the upstairs with the photo bomber:

Notice he is looking right at the camera

Oh, and just because my son is a huge Heat's fan, and because it's funny, here you go:

Hope everyone has a great week!

  1. Your new cushion and pillow look great, and you are a genius to add those numbers to the baskets! What a great idea. Your entry is so inviting, are those Ballard mirrors, too? I think I would trim the fringe off the rug also. And, your dogs are pretty cute too. :)
