Hi everyone, hope you all had a great weekend. I wanted to share the other side of my master bedroom, the one I have never showed here before, mainly because I hated the furniture, and because I don't like to see TV's in the bedroom, but it's a necessary evil around here, so it must stay.
I really always wanted to replace this dresser, I was never really in love with the style, and the color, well, let's just say we got the wrong color delivered, and I was too lazy to call them up to get them to deliver the right furniture. I had been looking around for a new dresser for a while, but either the color or style was wrong (not making that mistake again) or the price was just not right. I decided to just keep old faithful, with it's faux stone top, and just finally got the courage to give it's mega glossy, fake wood a nice coat of paint.
I originally went with some leftover ASCP in bright white, love that I did not have to prime it, but the final coat of paint just looked mega streaky, I guess it would had helped had I been able to give it a third coat, but alas, I ran out of paint. I really think I'm way over this whole chalk paint thing...especially the price. I decided to head on over to my local Benjamin Moore paint store, where I got a quart of their new Regal line in Matte, color is Gray Owl. I LOVE THIS PAINT! looks flat, but I am able to wipe it with no problem.
So here are a few pictures of the before and during process:

And here is the final results:
This is the much improved version of my old dresser. I did two coats of the BM paint, I also spray painted the handles in oil rubbed bronze. The armoire that was in the corner got donated, and in it's place, I would love to put a floor mirror, but that will most likely have to wait a bit. The basket was purchased at Target. I borrowed the rug (bought at Costco) from my daughter's room, and I have to say, I love it here, I may have to borrow it for a little while longer ;) I know two hair balls who would LOVE that as well:
As you can see, they have made themselves at home here. You also can see Mr. Vixen on the wall above the TV, in all his silvery glory.
And just as a reminder, here are the before and after again:

It looks lovely! And if the dogs approve, you know it's a winner. ;)
ReplyDeleteTrue, but than again, they pretty much approve of any space where they are allowed to lounge....and then vomit on them ;)
DeleteUm, gorgeous. I would have been terrified to paint something like that. And I want a deer head in our bedroom, but the hubs wants to veto the idea. Super bums me out, 'cause I'm kinda smitten with the idea.
ReplyDeleteRachel, don't give up just yet, my husband was also not into the whole deer thing, but sometimes you just have to prove them wrong.
DeleteOh Kristel, that completely transformed the entire look of your room! Hooray for paint! It saves the day once again!
ReplyDeleteI know, I think I want to paint every piece of furniture I own ;)
DeleteWow, it looks a million times better after some crisp, white paint!!
ReplyDeleteYes, well worth the wait I think, I am actually liking the dresser now.
DeleteThat looks amazing! A perfect piece for that wall and the color is perfect!

Your bedroom looks great! The pops of yellow against the grey are a perfect match and still my favourite colour combo :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle, I absolutely love the color combination as well, and I happen to notice it more now on other blogs as well.
DeleteVery nice transformation. I have to admit, from the pictures, I liked the dresser before you painted it but now it really pops and stands out! I also LOVE the light fixture in the room. Is there a story behind that?
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, yes, there used to be a fan in it's place, but I always wanted a chandelier instead. More info here http://thevelvetdoorblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/master-bedroom-lighting.html
DeleteLove the difference! The color is great!!

Lovely, looks so clean and fresh for the new year.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm going for clean and fresh this year ;)
DeleteSimply amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow!What a beautiful transformation. Gorgeous...every detail. :)
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom looks fabulous and I know your pups just love that rug. Thanx for sharing with us at THT.
ReplyDeleteI too have borrowed rugs from my kids room! Finally had to give it back but I'm now on the lookout for something similar for my room. Love the bedroom and the transformation!
ReplyDeleteIt looks good - for a TV on dresser - you KNOW what I mean. I came across your blog in a search for how to improve the looks of the TV on the dresser in our master. I think a concealed TV with a lift is the real solution - but I don't be doing that either due to the cost and the fact that I love my dresser! Just not the TV on top of it.
ReplyDeleteAgree. I have the Same eye sore thanks to the hubby. TV on dresser is like toaster oven on countertop. I'm determined to give mine a new home this year. Good luck
DeleteLots of brilliant ideas present in this bedroom! So pretty! I admire everything a lot! I think everyone can see the beauty of the colors, and I totally agree with them. You’ve got the best things here. Congrats!
