Master Bath Face Lift

Well, I had a busy week last week, one that I'm not hoping to repeat any time soon!  I had been wanting to start on this project for a long time now, but I knew that it was not going to be easy or fun, so I kept putting it off. I also said to my self "start a little at a time", I should had listened, because there were times when I did not think I was going to finish in time, and felt like crying, and giving up.

My Bathroom was a complete mess for a whole week, my poor husband did not complain one bit, he knows I'm crazy like that.  I am a complete neat freak, so the mess in here was driving me insane.

The master bathroom, like the whole house when we bought it, was painted in this light skin color, it was not horrible, but when I get it in my head that in needs a change, I also meant the color.  I wanted something airy, I think all these light colors out there in blogland are affecting me...in a good way.

Here are the before pictures of the master bath:

I took this pictures right before I started on the painting, you can see the mess just beginning on one picture.  I did not take a picture of the during, because I don't want to remember that mess.  As you can see, this was builder perfection!  Builder cabinets and lighting, and flooring and everything. In my dreams, I completely demolished the whole thing, got new cabinets, claw foot tub, the whole chabang! But, unfortunately, I had to work with with what I was given.  So I changed the wall colors, light fixtures, painted the gorgeous cabinets, and added some hardware.

Here are the afters:

I first started by painting the room where the (sorry, no better words for this) toilet is with paint I had on hand, Rattan, by Benjamin Moore.  I installed a train rack I got at Target a while back for $12.  I then painted the rest of the bathroom in Navajo White, by Benjamin Moore.  I love this color!  It is a nice shade of white, more like a cream, not boring at all, and this is coming from someone who loves color.  I proceeded to paint the cabinets in black, I used this method, which was not easy, but hopefully, will be worth it in the long run, because I will not be painting this cabinets again!!

I also made the shelf above the tub, I had the flower hangers for years, and I just put a piece of wood and secured it with pipe holders, done.  The rest was the fun part, accessorizing.

Here are some room stats:

Main wall paint color: Navajo White by Benjamin Moore
Wall color: Rattan by Benjamin Moore
Train Rack: Target
Basket: Target
Cabinet Hardware: Home Depot
Towel Hangers: Martha Stewart for Home Depot
Light Fixture:Overstock.com
Flower Picture: Target
Lantern: Target
Bath Mats: Target

I hope you have liked my master bath face lift, my husband says it now looks like a spa in there, I think he is only saying that because he still remembers the mess I had there last week.

Have a great week!

    1. Lisa, I used liquid nails on the back of each individual piece (there are four, two on top, two on the side, I started with the bottom, and worked my way up) and secured them with painters tape. I did the bottom first, waited about 2 hours, then I did the sides, also waited about 2 hours, and lastly the top part. I had all the pieces painted before hand, but once I installed all four pieces, I went back with wood putty, and painted over that once it dried. Hope that helped.

    1. Janel- I just had them mix the color in black, no specific name. The paint I used is called MoorGard Low Lustre by Benjamin Moore, and it is meant for exterior painting, but I have used it before to paint furniture, with great results.
