Fall Mantel and Decor

I love to decorate for the fall, which is by far my favorite season.  I thought that having a fireplace with a mantel would be a bonus to my decorating ideas.  Um, not so.

I first started by hanging a mirror over the mantel, and accessorizing from there according to the holidays and season.  I loved how it made that space a little more open.  I read somewhere though, that having a mirror over the mantel is a big no no.  Why, well, because no one can see themselves.  True, but I still like a mirror over it.  I may go back to that eventually.  For now though, I have moved the mirror to a console in the family room, and I am loving where it is now.

Before and After?

We are not that new to Texas.  I mean, we lived in Houston for a year, before relocating to the Dallas area, so it has been a little over two years now.  So you would think that I would know how the weather here is. Well, not exactly.  Houston was for the most part, very similar to Florida, where we are from, just not as humid.  Dallas, on the other, has got it's crazy weather hat on.  It's always to the extreme.  We had record braking heat days this past summer, where the temperature would be about 111 degrees, but felt like it was way worse.  In the winter we were stuck home for a week because of ice on the roads.  Needless to say, I've been begging my husband for a trip back home.

Lesson learned: Put patio furniture in garage next time.....and grill!

Dining Room

I last showed you my small living room, and thought I would share the adjoining room, the also very small dining room.  Since this is supposed to be the formal dining room, and would get used when we have guest come over, we decided to get a table that could sit a lot of people.

We purchased this table at Sam's Club. The table has served it's purpose, as we are able to sit 8 people at once, but there are a couple of  issues we have found, one being that it is not very comfortable.  It is a hightop table and chair set, so the kids have trouble getting on and off, plus, when we do have all 8 people, it can feel a little claustrophobic.  So I have decide to put it up on Craig's List.  I spotted a table at my friends house that I absolutely just fell in love with.  It is the Sourav from World Market, and the great thing is that it comes as a set with 4 chair and  a matching bench, so I may be able to sit 6 to 7 at once.

A Little Intro

Well, I finally decided to give this blogging thing a try....can't promise that it will be any good :)

I want to introduce my very humble living room.  It's nothing fancy, with two kids and two hairballs, fancy would never work.  I love casual, comfortable style, the kind you can actually live in.  I try to get inspiration from magazines, and lately, from blogs that I have discovered.  You could say I have a very eclectic style.

Our Formal (yeah, right!) Living Room

Can you tell that I love my living room?  I do.  It's very small, but honestly, for a room that gets very little use, I don't need anything bigger, besides, that would mean I would have more to clean.  This room did not always look like this.  Well, sort of.  You see, we just recently got new floors, to replace the builder grade white carpet we use to have.  Oh yes, I said white.  Did I mention I happen to have two kids and two hairballs?  Well, when it was time to remove the dreaded carped, it was not white anymore ;)  Here is a before picture:
